LG have not been slow in the last few years in supporting the green cause when it comes to greener mobiles. The GD510 Pop is one great example of the company’s commitment to designing and building eco-responsible phones and in the process making the world carbon free.
But by 2012, LG are looking to raise their game again and they have set themselves the target of doing away with its use of conventional magnesium and replacing it with eco- magnesium. Much of this material is used in the die-casting process and its part of their strategy in an ongoing effort to transform LG into a leader in more environmentally responsible manufacturing
Is this a good thing? Yep, Eco M was developed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH). Without any loss of structural quality, eco- magnesium creates almost no sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), this is one of the most potent greenhouse gas ever encountered. By using the new material, the greenhouse gas emissions potentially could be reduced by a factor of 24,000. Or to put that in layman terms that’s the equivalent of 4kg less CO2 for every handset LG punches out.
Nice one LG...
