Well, the votes are in... And according to Greenpeace, the coveted first prize goes to Sony Ericsson’s Aspen as the greenest mobile in the land. In 2nd place on the Greenpeace list of green mobile phones on the market, is Nokia’s N8.
Despite the size of a mobile its carbon footprint, is really high due to its energy consumption, using a mobile phone just for an hour a day, for an entire year, produces the same carbon footprint as a flight to the United States.
Greenpeace concluded in their survey that in comparison to recent years, improvements have been made to the energy efficiency of electronics and reductions have been made in the use of hazardous chemicals in the manufacturing process. Plus, there is a greater awareness of earth friendly technology.
So remember to dispose of all your old mobiles in the greenest way possible and not just chuck them in landfill sites, but hand them in to recycling centres.
Three cheers for Sony Ericsson!
