The Committee On Climate Change released its 2nd report this week, and in 2009, carbon emissions in the UK decreased by 8.6 per cent. It’s good news, but there is still some way to go; according to the CCC we still to make a further 34% cuts in emissions by 2020.
But everyone is doing something…
Plymouth Argyle FC, staged the world's first carbon-neutral football match when they played Newcastle back in April. Chairman Sir Roy Gardner "Newcastle to Plymouth is the longest trip in the Football League so to be able to offset the carbon footprint for that amount of travel, not to mention all the other energy consumption and waste surrounding the game, is a phenomenal achievement. "
Rock Legends Pearl Jam invested £150,000 to plant trees in Washington in a bid to offset the carbon footprint left behind by their recent sell-out US tour. The bands investment covers their own travel and hotel contributions, as well as the emissions created by fans that travelled to dates on the 32-date jaunt. As well as Washington, the band also wants to build similar urban forests in Seattle, Kent, Kirkalnd and Redmond.
Rock that carbon!
