It’s A Very Green Apple...

Greener Mobiles

Whilst it’s a beautiful smart phone, Apples range of iPhone green credentials would appear shocking.  Shareholders, eco-campaigners, including the mighty Greenpeace have all attacked Apple since 2006 with a very public campaign about Apple’s use of hazardous substances in the manufacture of it’s iPhones and iPods along with the fact that its batteries are both expensive to replace and hard to dispose of.

Apple has answered the call and is now looking at making the use of solar power for their mobiles their first priority.  The Cupertino, Calif. based company has focused on a system to charge portable devices using the power of the sun.  Apple has patented what they call, a ‘voltage regulator’ and ‘smart controller’ in varying voltage and current.  Therefore, Apple users will be able to charge their devices at the socket, USB and by solar power too, none of which compromises power or damaging the battery.

Not all mobile phone manufacturers have come up with a design that is solar powered, so this is a good step towards sustainability for Apple and will only add to the wonder of what could be the iPhone 6?
